Bacon!

Jan. 22nd, 2008 | 10:48 am
mood: cheerful cheerful

So I found my ketai yesterday!  One of my coworkers had it.  Yay! I had 30 new mails waiting for me.  Oops.

This morning I dropped my left contact lens down the bathroom sink.  I’ve never done that before.  It was surprising and then impressive and then annoying.

Today two of my three lessons have been cancelled or rearranged. So it’s a breezy, breezy day!

I’m not sure how much longer I can talk about my birthday.  Perhaps until about April?  But I wanna tell you about one of the awesome gifts I got.

From Princess Pammie Ann.

*Mindy Shock*

Jan. 20th, 2008 | 12:11 pm
mood: cold cold

In another swift move by yours truly, I left my keitai at work on Friday afternoon. No a huge deal, except I had plans to meet people in Tokyo on Saturday. This is always a lot easier when one has a keitai. “I’m here now.” “I’m on the wrong train.” “What exit should we meet at?” So boo to me.

I took some advice from Bexy and actually went back to my school on Saturday morning to get it. But I couldn’t find it!! It wasn’t on my desk or in any of the drawers. So what the heck have I done with it? I’m hoping that one of my well-meaning coworkers saw is and put it “someplace safe.” I’ll just have to wait until I go in on Monday.

Keitai issues aside, yesterday was super fun! I met up with Meddy-moo in Yurakucho. We found the theatre and got inline. Got our goods. Hung out. I was really surprised to see how LONG the show was. Shock started at 1, and I was thinking we’d be done at 3:30. Nope. Show was timed to be finished at 4:25! Holy toot!

Highlights:
  • The washrooms were huge. Meds went to avail herself of the facilities, and when he came back she informed me “I think the washrooms here have the most toilets in the whole world!” Of course, I had to see this for myself. And I’ll be darned if she wasn’t correct. There must have been at least 50 toilets in there. But only 4 sinks. How does that work?
  • Koichi flies. A lot. I still think this is really creepy.
  • He was wearing a black tuxedo with WHITE SOCKS!!! As he was flying around! WHITE SOCKS! My head nearly exploded.
  • Ohkura got to drum, which was fun of course. But everyone in the cast got to drum. At one point I thought they were going to start handing out drums to the audience, there were so many people drumming. “Here . . take this. We don’t have enough funky beats going on yet.”
  • Japanese people take a long time to die. After surviving a five-minute sword fight, Koichi was shot. He still got up. He was stabbed a bunch more times, had his back sliced open, was generally kicked around. And STILL he got up and climbed a huge flight of stairs. If I were Yara, I would have stabbed him too. “Enough, already!”
  • I felt very young as an audience member!
  • The goods were well organized. That said, there weren’t many goods. But they were still organized well and had enough people selling them.
  • I know it was a happy ending because there were cherry blossoms. Isn’t that handy?

After the show, Meds and I went to a denki store to use the massage chairs. Sweet sweeeeet massage chairs. I had all my 30-year-old stresses kneaded out of me. Thankfully . . . it did not work out any of my kinks!

Meds and I went our separate ways and I set off for Kichijoji to meet my friend Annie. No, not that Annie. Another one. We found each other and went for curry. Were I plopped a big dollop of mutton curry on myself. Aren’t I talented? Does anyone have a good remedy for curry stains?

After curry, Annie took me for cake. We shared two kinds of chocolate cake that were both yum-diddly-scrumptious! But I did not take photos of them. Because it was cake. And I did not scream “Umaaaai!” with my mouth full of cake. Because . . .cake. I did open birthday presents though! Yay more birthday presents! The themes of shiny and fluffy continue!!! With added themes of “cute,” and “delicious!” Yay!

I left Annie so she could study. On a Saturday nigt . . .riiiiiight. And made it home without incident. I was properly prepared for this trip! I had a blanket to keep me from getting chilly. And I remembered to bring a book. I started reading the book Buns gave me, and it was great! I actually ha to finish it when I got home. It’s a murder mystery and I was worried it would be really scary or bloody. But it was really interesting and kinda funny in parts. And one of the main characters was named Iris Rikker. Sheriff Rikker. So I just mentally changed her name to Ricker. And the book got EVEN BETTER!

It’s actually a lot easier to drive to Ishibashi (where I work, so where I parked after looking for my keitai at my school.) than it is to take the train to and from Utsunomiya Station. Utsunomiya station is actually about 15 or 20 minutes by car from my apartment. There are buses, but they stop at about 8:30. A taxi is about 1300 yen. So if I drive and park at Ishibashi station, it’s 400 yen for the day. (Parking at Utsunomiya station is about 300 yen for an HOUR!) Which is roughly how much I save on the train by starting closer to my destination. I spend some money on gas, but it’s still a whole lot less than a cab from Utsunomiya station. Of course, going from Minami-Utsunomiya is the easiest for me, but that sometimes has long connection times since it’s not JR and is on a wee small line. The trains also stop kinda early. So I think I’ll be driving to Ishibashi next weekend when I go in to see Subaru/Murakami.

I got another wonderful card in the post yesterday! It has Murakami jumping out of a cake at a party that Hello Kitty has thrown for me. How awesome is that?? Cake at Kitty’s house. Murakami-filled cake at Kitty’s house!! Thank you Samantha!

In other news . . .my apartment will NOT heat up this morning. Grrr

My Birthday. In Review!

Jan. 17th, 2008 | 10:00 pm
mood: sleepy sleepy

My birthday was awesome. Thank you so much to everyone who called, mailed, messaged and stabbed me in the eye with wonderful birthday greetings. 30 doesn’t feel much different from 29, but it’s been a really good start to the year. Thank you.

So how did I celebrate?

On Saturday, Bex came over for dinner and videos and fun. We watched Ocean’s 13. I ogled George Clooney. She ogled Brad Pitt. We work well together that way. We ate turkey and stuffing and potatoes and had apple crepes for dessert. Bex ate. She went back for seconds. She went back for leftovers a little while later. I was sincerely impressed!  Go Bex!  Now if you would only learn to sleep.  And don't worry...I kept pace so she wasn't eating all by her lonesome.

On Sunday we slacked around and did some shopping. We went to Subway for lunch. We went to Don Quixote. How romantic is that??? Subway and then ドンキホテ! It was like a date! Only not. We laughed at young lads in the parking lot trying to fix a motorcycle. Bex bought hot chocolate and root beer. I got Diet Dr Pepper. It was a good trip to the Donks.

We wandered over to Utsunomiya station around 5. Annie arrived and we hung out at Starbucks until Katherine showed up. “Happy Birthday!” she said, as she handed me a white plastic bag. Of beer. Girl gave me beer for my birthday! How did she know?
“Wow!” I said. “I’ve never had beer from Shiga before!”
“This is from Omiya. I got it when I changed trains.”
”…Well…I’m sure that’s very special too.”
And was it ever!!! She taped pics of K8 all over it! I have a sextet of Kanjani pilsners! Ha-frikken-zzah!!!

We went out for gyoza and drinks. We got kicked out of there and went for more drinks and snacks at an izakaya. We grabbed a cab back to my place, but stopped at the 7-11 to get cake.

There was no cake to be had.

Boo, 7-11!! I will never go there again. Until I have to pay a bill. Which was today, actually. So 7-11 may not actually know how angry I am.

Ah well.

I opened my birthday presents. I.   Cleaned. Up!!

You might think your friends give good presents.

You are wrong.

Unless we have the same friends.

In which case, yay us!!!

I could stand here and write a list of all the fabulous loot I got.
